Hello! We are Don and Stephanie. We have been married ten years and renewed our wedding vows on January 5, 2011 in Las Vegas. We love kids, but do not have any children yet. We enjoy each other's company every day. Don is always making Stephanie laugh which she loves and Stephanie makes a warm and loving home which Don loves. Being a couple is great, but we are now so excited about starting a family. We have so much we want to share with a child, including lots of love and patience, strong family values, time together for activites, educational opportunities, travel, and lots of laughter and fun.
Our dream, and we hope this is your dream too, is for a child that will grow knowing that you, as the birth mother and we as the adoptive parents love this child totally and completely and that every hope and plan for him/her was made with absolute love.
About open adoption: We have always talked about having a child. When we met, Stephanie was in medical school which was busy and then residency training for four years, also busy. Time flew by. The idea of adoption came into being. We had heard of people adopting children from China, and since Don's mom is Chinese-American, we thought that would be be a nice idea. We came to realize that there were a couple of limitations to face. One is that it takes about three years of waiting to adopt there, and the other is that our child would never get to know anything about their birth parents or why they were placed for adoption. We think a child could benefit from knowing more, so for us, adoption within the United States became the right choice.
About Don: Before meeting, Don was described to Stephanie as a "happy-go-lucky golfer." His dad taught him to play golf at age 5. In fact, it was golf that brought us together. Besides being a golfer (which Don doesn't do so much now that he is married), he has been an engineer for 15 years. Don also likes tennis, board games, and is an avid reader. He is a big soccer and hockey fan. Thanks to Stephanie, Don now loves dogs, especially Mikey and Koko whom he babies. At this point he would really like to have an actual baby though, possibly a future golfer.
About Stephanie: Stephanie is a physician, specialized in psychiatry. She works part-time only. The rest of the time she is homemaking, visiting with friends or family, gardening, surfing the internet, making crafty projects, walking the dogs, reading books on child rearing and dreaming about parenting a child.
Stephanie writes about Don: "I fell in love with Don at first sight. It sounds silly, but it is true. We were being introduced and he reached over to shake my hand. I knew I would marry him. He is a person of honesty and integrity and he is so funny. I love the way he makes me laugh all the time. He lets me know in everything that he does that he is trustworthy and will always do the right thing, to the best of his ability. He accepts me for who I am and makes me feel like a good and valuable person, and I know this is how he will be with our child."
Don writes about Stephanie: "Stephanie and I have very similar personalities and perhaps this is why we get along so easily. We met in Las Vegas, attending a birthday party/golf trip of a mutual friend, Since that's where we met and fell in love, that's where we chose to get married, two years later. (Plus, at that time we didn't have the time and money for a big wedding as it was Steph's last year of medical school.) We got married at the MGM Grand "Forever Grand" Wedding Chapel. Steph was beautiful. We have been back to Las Vegas to celebrate many of our wedding anniversaries. Steph is a dedicated and caring doctor, a warm and good-natured person, and a wonderful wife. She's fun-loving, sensitive, and nuturing. If you were to make her acquaintance, you would see these things in her as I do. You cannot miss it."
Sincerely,
Donald and Stephanie
